Volunteer Opportunities
Many volunteers are active in supporting emergency responses nationwide. Here in New Mexico we have an active New Mexico Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (NMVOAD) which comprises some 25 separate organizations. The NMVOAD meets monthly in Albuquerque.
Here in Rio Rancho we have several active volunteer organizations that directly support our emergency preparedness and response:
• Rio Rancho Community Emergency Response Team: 513 trained people as of May 2012. Training classes are scheduled at least four times a year. • Rio Rancho Red Cross Disaster Action Team: Red Cross volunteers who provide support throughout Sandoval County and Albuquerque’s West Side north of I-40. Team Leader can be reached via the Red Cross Chapter at 265-8514 or Chapter Coordinator Taura Livingston at
• Sandoval County Amateur Radio Emergency Services: 28 ham radio volunteers who actively support emergency communications needs throughout Sandoval County. Club President is Ron Reder, NM5AA. Contact him on the 147.100 MHz, ,67Hz repeater or at (505) 890-8585.
