The Meadowlark Senior Center, the Rio Rancho Stamp Club and the Albuquerque Philatelic Society will be hosting the 4th Annual NewMexPex Stamp Show on Saturday, October 17 (9am-5pm) and Sunday, October 18, 2009 (9am-4pm). Local stamp clubs will be displaying competitive stamp exhibits, and dealers from throughout the region will have tables of stamps and supplies for sale. There will be door prize drawings and gifts for the kids. This event is open to the general public. Admission is free.

East-Meets-West Health Fair - Oct. 24
On Saturday, October 24th, 2009 from 9:00 am to 12 Noon, Meadowlark Senior Center is pleased to offer the 4th Annual East Meets West Health Fair. This unique fair is for anyone interested in aging “gracefully and comfortably.” There will be information on health and pain management from both the Oriental and Western medicine perspectives. Learn about Massage, Ocular Health, Yoga, Chinese Herbs and a variety of other “alternative” health techniques as well as screenings for bone density, high blood pressure and other medical conditions. Presbyterian Health Plan will be administering seasonal flu shots for those 55 and over during the 4th annual East-Meets-West Health Fair.

Admission is free and open to the public. Complimentary snacks, door prizes, and gifts will be available.

Ghost Tours of Old Town - Oct. 2
Legends, folklore, ghost stories, and history come to life as you depart on an intriguing excursion through 300 years of haunted history. Professional tour guides escort you on a 90-minute lantern-lit adventure. You will search for the lost souls of early residents, Civil War phantoms, and wandering apparitions who have made Old Town their eternal home. The Department of Aging and Long Term Care’s HIBAC (Health Insurance Benefits Assistance Corps) program provides MSC with a volunteer counselor twice a month. Items for discussion include Medicare/Medicaid, claim denial appeals, HMO information, nursing home and home health care coverage, SSI, and help with medication, utility bills, food assistance, and housing. Rio Eyecare - Oct. 20

The Department of Aging and Long Term Care’s HIBAC (Health Insurance Benefits Assistance Corps) program provides MSC with a volunteer counselor twice a month. Items for discussion include Medicare/Medicaid, claim denial appeals, HMO information, nursing home and home health care coverage, SSI, and help with medication, utility bills, food assistance, and housing. East-Meets-West Health Fair - Oct. 24
On Saturday, October 24th, 2009 from 9:00 am to 12 Noon, Meadowlark Senior Center is pleased to offer the 4th Annual East Meets West Health Fair. This unique fair is for anyone interested in aging “gracefully and comfortably.” There will be information on health and pain management from both the Oriental and Western medicine perspectives. Learn about Massage, Ocular Health, Yoga, Chinese Herbs and a variety of other “alternative” health techniques as well as screenings for bone density, high blood pressure and other medical conditions. Presbyterian Health Plan will be administering seasonal flu shots for those 55 and over during the 4th annual East-Meets-West Health fair.

Admission is free and open to the public. Complimentary snacks, door prizes, and gifts will be available.

Fall Prevention - Oct. 27
More than 90 million American adults experience disequilibrium or balance problems at some time in their lives. Falls are the leading cause of disabling injury in older adults. Most balance disorders can be treated successfully by using balance retraining and/or vestibular rehabilitation. Jean Gomez, RN., will be on-hand to speak about fall prevention.
