Join us for our annual Veteran’s Day Celebration, Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 1:30 in the MSC dining room. It has become a custom for MSC to host the Honor Guard and the Valley High School drill team. They bring to MSC the spirit and tradition that epitomizes the various branches of the Armed Services. Free Screening: Assess Your Risk of Falling - Nov. 19
MSC & HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, Albuquerque, invite you for a FREE Screening to assess your risk of falling. Specially trained Physical Therapists will be on-site to help determine your risk for falling. Falls can lead to many different medical problems, including hip fractures and brain injuries. These medical complications can lead to loss of independence. Let HealthSouth aide you in preserving your independence. Space is limited to 8 clients per session. Please call the MSC Programs Office at (505) 891-5018 to make an appointment. Appointments should be made no later than Monday, November 16 by end of business day. Please cancel 48 hours in advance if you are unable to attend your free screening. You should plan on arriving 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to fill out paperwork.

Emotional Freedom Techinique - Nov. 20
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a form of alternative psychotherapy. Coping Effectively with Mental Illness Without Going Crazy - Nov. 24
Josefa E. Vazquez, MSW, ACSW, retired clinical social worker with 30 years of experience in the field of mental illness will be talking about the symptomolgy of depression and bipolar illness. “The Invisible Disability” educational video about the impact of mental illness will be shown. This presentation will increase self-awareness as well as provide effective tools to strengthen survival skills.

The Department of Aging and Long Term Care’s HIBAC (Health Insurance Benefits Assistance Corps) program provides MSC with a volunteer counselor twice a month. Items for discussion include Medicare/Medicaid, claim denial appeals, HMO information, nursing home and home health care coverage, SSI, and help with medication, utility bills, food assistance, and housing.
